Prof. Eschmann Awarded Fellowship at Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center

Robert D. Eschmann, BUSSW faculty member and expert on racism in online spaces, begins a fellowship at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society on September 1, 2020. 

At the Berkman Klein Center (BKC), Eschmann joins an esteemed group of fellows, students, staff, faculty associates and affiliates. In a statement posted on BKC’s website, Executive Director Urs Gasser says, “Community is key to our work at the Berkman Klein Center, and together with our new cohort, we will explore and debate pressing issues through various lenses, share research and ideas, and build upon our robust, inclusive network to create work with real-world impact.” 

Eschmann will use his time as a fellow to work on his book, When the Hood Comes Off: Racism and Resistance in the Digital Era (University of California Press). His fellowship will extend through the 2020-2021 academic year.

Rob Eschmann is an assistant professor at BU School of Social Work and a faculty affiliate at the Department of Sociology and the African American Studies Program. His research and writing, which has been featured in publications including The Black Scholar and Youth & Society, focuses on racism, social media, and educational inequality.
