4/18: Prof. Hahm Empowers Asian Community Voters at Event for AAPI Mental Health & Women’s Rights

An Asian American woman voting

Civic engagement has the power to transform people’s lives, particularly for marginalized communities such as Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). Prof. Hyeouk Chris Hahm from BU School of Social Work will share her life experiences and research at an event focused on encouraging Asian communities to vote. “Amplify Voices, Promote Women’s Wellness: Elevating Asian Communities in Civic Engagement,” is hosted by the National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association (NAAPIMHA) and will feature panelists who will also inform voters on where government candidates stand on important AAPI issues, including mental health and women’s rights.

Hahm has done extensive work to support the AAPI community including developing and implementing culture-based mental health intervention programs like AWARE (Asian American Women’s Actions in Resilience and Empowerment), with variations for students and artists. Her past research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH, NICHD), the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
