Prof. Jacobson López Inducted into Alumni Hall of Fame at University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice

The University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice recently inducted Prof. Daniel Jacobson López from BU School of Social Work into their Alumni Hall of Fame. The honor is given to graduates who have shown significant efforts in teaching, writing, research, service, or program development.
“I am beyond thrilled, honored, and humbled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at the University of Pennsylvania,” says Jacobson López. “I am truly thankful that my work has been recognized and deemed noteworthy. Much of what I do has been fueled by my own experiences of knowing that the world isn’t fair and that people are treated differently simply for being who they are. As a gay man of color, I am acutely aware of how fortunate I am to have so many opportunities throughout my career thus far. Often, there were no spaces for me or people like me, so I created them. There is a lot more to be done. I am very thankful to be continuing my scholarship and advocacy at BU where my work is valued and I have the support of my colleagues. I am eternally thankful to so many at Penn who have guided and believed in me from the start so I could even pursue this career. A special thank you to Dr. Antonio Garcia, Dr. Dixon-Roman, and Provost Jackson throughout the years.”
Prof. Jacobson López specializes in public health, trauma, and racial justice. His research focuses on marginalized groups whose intersectional identities impact their experiences with social structures. Recently, Prof. López was appointed to the Blue Ribbon Task Force at San Diego State University (SDSU) to help combat gender-based violence on college campuses. This work builds on his previous project – a strategic model that combats relationship violence and sexual misconduct. He advises that such work should center the most vulnerable, including LGBTQ+ students of color.
