10/13: Prof. Paris Hosts “Improving Early Childhood Well-Being” at Research on Tap

BU School of Social Work Professor Ruth Paris will co-host a Research on Tap event with BU Wheelock Prof. Dina Castro, “Improving Early Childhood Well-Being,” in her role as associate director for Research at the BU Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being.

“A socially and economically healthy society depends on that society’s investment in developing healthy children,” says Prof. Paris. “To this end, the BU Institute for Early Childhood Well-Being works to address adverse conditions faced by children and families including chronic stress, trauma, poverty, racism, discrimination, and other challenges.” The Research on Tap event will feature research and solutions from faculty across Boston University topics ranging from individual childhood experiences to social determinants of health that affect children around the world. In addition to Prof. Paris’s presentation, “The Growing Together Study: Responding to the Needs of Mothers with Opioid Use Disorder & Their Infants,” the event will include:

  • “Equitable Early Education for Bilingual Children: From Research to Practice” by BU Wheelock Professor Dina Castro
  • “Leveraging Primary Care to Promote Early Childhood Well-Being” by BU School of Medicine & Pediatrics Professor Emily Feinberg

  • “Child Neurodevelopment in South Africa” by BU School of Public Health Professor Peter Rockers
  • “Improving Early Childhood Well-Being: Understanding and Addressing Maternal Adversity” by BU School of Medicine & Pediatrics Professor Mei Elansary
  • “Contrasting children’s positive and negative behaviors across societies” by BU College of Arts and Sciences Professor Peter Blake
  • “Sleep Problems in Early Childhood: The Role of Biological Stress” by BU College of Arts and Sciences Professor Amanda Tarullo
