Hey everyone, I’m Krystal, a second-year student here at BUSSW! I was born and spent my childhood in the Bronx, NY before my family moved to Georgia in 2005. I received my B.S. in Psychology from the University of Georgia in 2020 and took a gap year before coming to BU in the Fall of 2021.
My favorite populations to work with are children, adolescents, and younger (than me) adults who hold minority/marginalized identities. I believe there is so, so much need and potential in these individuals, and my goal is to support them in achieving their goals, whatever the size. I hope to shed light and create space for deconstructing generational and identity-based trauma in ways that are constructive for my clients. I also think it’s helpful to have support that looks like you or has similar experiences as you, so I hopped into the social work field to be that for others. While I don’t have any specific areas I’d like to work in post-graduation, I know that I want to continue to work with these populations in the most accessible ways.
Outside of BUSSW, you can find me balancing two part-time jobs aside from my role as a student ambassador, while also having a part-time field placement and a full-time course load. I enjoy indulging in Boston’s history and New England’s breathtaking nature sights during my free time. My hobbies include taking walks/hikes, cruising around on my skateboard or rollerblades, and tending to my indoor and outdoor plants.
I’m excited to connect with you! As always, reach out when your questions arise; we’ll be happy to help.
