By Subway (the “T”):
Any subway line in Boston eventually crosses the Green Line. You should take a green line “B” train outbound (marked Boston College/Comm Ave). There are also C, D and E Green Line trains, which you do not want. The fare is $2.75 ($2.25 w/CharlieCard).
Exit the train at the second stop after the train comes above ground. This is the “BU East” stop. Across the street is a large dormitory called Warren Towers, located at 700 Commonwealth Avenue. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is located at 665 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA, 02215 in room 617.
From Logan Airport:
If you take a cab, tell the driver you want to go to Warren Towers at 700 Comm Ave. The real address is Commonwealth Ave., so the driver will think you are a native if you say Comm Ave. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is located at 665 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA, 02215 in room 617.
Alternatively, you may take the subway. This involves taking a shuttle bus from the terminal to the Airport subway stop on the blue line. Take the blue line to Government Center, go upstairs to the green line. You should take a green line “B” train outbound (marked Boston College/Comm Ave). Follow the above directions.
By Car:
From the south:
Take I-95 north. This road heads west when you reach the junction with I-93/Rte. 128. To avoid nasty expressway traffic, follow I-95 until it meets the Mass Pike, I-90. Now follow the directions below from the west.
From the west:
From the south, take I-95 north to the Mass Pike (I-90). Take I-90 (Mass Turnpike) east toward Boston; Take the Cambridge-Allston exit which is on your LEFT. Pay $1.25 toll, using one of the booths on your right. After paying, make sure that you’re in the far right lane. Head for the tall hotel building. At the second light (just in front of the hotel), turn right onto Storrow Drive (also called Soldiers Field there). Do not go over the bridge over the river! Stay on Storrow Drive and take the second exit for BU called Kenmore Exit. You have no choice but to make a right at this exit. After you’ve turned right, you are on Charlesgate Rd, which is really short. At the lights, make a hard right turn on to Bay State Road. Take the second left, turning onto Deerfield St. Deerfield is short; turn right onto Commonwealth Ave. After two blocks, you will see the Center for Computing & Data Sciences building (CCDS). The Mathematics & Statistics department is located in the CCDS building in room 613.
From the north:
Take I-93 or US Route 1 south into Boston. US 1 joins I-93 just after the Tobin Bridge. Take Exit 26, Storrow Drive, and follow the signs to Storrow Drive West. Proceed 2 miles until the Kenmore Square Exit. Be sure to take the right fork on the exit ramp toward Kenmore Square. At the lights, make a hard right turn on to Bay State Road. Take the second left, turning onto Deerfield St. Deerfield is short; turn right onto Commonwealth Ave. After two blocks, you will see the Center for Computing & Data Sciences building (CCDS). From NYC via Amtrak:
Board an Amtrak train in NYC to Boston. Once you are in Boston, get off at the Back Bay train station (this is the second to last stop, just before South Station, which is the end of the line). Take The “T” (trolley/subway) to the Math Dept. as described below: (be sure you take $2.50/$2.00 for the correct T fare with you).
Exit Back Bay train station on the front (Dartmouth Street) side, and turn right on the sidewalk just out front. Walk approx 3 blocks to Copley Square. You will see the Public Library on your left and the Square on your right. At the corner of Copley Square opposite the Hancock bldg. (tallest building around, on your right: thin, blue/green glass and and the bldg. is trapezoidal in cross-section) and just across Boylston Street you will find an “Outbound” entrance to the Copley Square green line station. Board an outbound “B” Green line train. (There are four types of green lines that stop here B, C, D, E) Be sure to take a “B” train (which is called the Boston College/Comm. Ave train). Do not hesitate to ask the conductor if you have any doubts about whether you are on the correct train or not.
The appropriate stop for the Math Dept is the “BU East” stop which is the second stop above ground.
