Cynthia Perry (’23) awarded Louisville Institute Grant for Black Sports Ministry Network Project

Cynthia N. Perry graduated cum laude from the School of Theology in 2023 with a Master of Divinity degree.

Master of Divinity alumna Cynthia N. Perry (’23), Executive Director of the Black Sports Ministry Network (BSMN), was selected as the recipient of a $15,000 Pastoral Study Project Grant from the prestigious Louisville Institute. This grant will be instrumental in supporting the BSMN in their year-long 2024 project “A Womanist Sports Ethic of Care.” This project is multifaceted and is set to explore the intersectionalities faced by Black women college athletes and offer guidance on navigating the complex roles of being Black, an athlete, and a person of faith.

The Black Sports Ministry Network also focuses on the intersections of Black liberation and womanist theology, and provides spiritual care to athletes and coaches through the lens of Black theology. Their other current projects include creating a directory of Black sports chaplains, coaches, and pastoral sports ministers as a reference for amateur and professional Black athletes.
