Director of Religious Exploration, Part-Time, UU: Framingham, MA
First Parish has embraced a cooperative religious exploration program, with Sunday experiences led by the DRE and/or volunteer parents and other members. Children and youth are regularly included in Sunday worship, with a Time for All Ages during the worship service delivered by the DRE. The congregation offers youth groups for middle and high school age youth, social action opportunities, and multigenerational events, providing children and youth with many opportunities to discover their Unitarian Universalist faith. We seek a DRE who will provide vision and leadership to help guide faith development in children and youth, and outreach and support to parents and families. The DRE will work in collaboration with the minister, staff, and lay leaders to connect the RE Program to the other activities of the church. The position is part-time, 20 hours weekly, with a flexible schedule developed in collaboration with the Senior Minister, including Sunday mornings. The expected compensation is $27,000 annually.
The goals for the RE program are to:
. Provide a grounding in Unitarian Universalist identity
. Contribute to spiritual development
. Support children and youth in their ethical development
. Contribute to faith development for families
. Provide an opportunity for a multigenerational experience
Our close-knit community provides a safe place to question and wonder, learn and grow in order to gain an appreciation of and respect for the diversity of religious thought. The DRE will work closely with the volunteer RE council to help ensure that the children and youth are engaged thoughtfully and creatively in this mission, and that adult volunteers are well supported in their teaching and leadership roles.
