JOB OPENING: Jewish Spiritual Advisor– Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service
Northeastern University is seeking a Jewish Spiritual Advisor to work with students, faculty, and staff of diverse Jewish and interfaith backgrounds through the University’s Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service (CSDS). The position is part-time (15 hours a week), and the individual serves from late August to early May each academic year.
This dynamic leader and teacher will serve our diverse and vibrant Jewish community and engage the wider Northeastern community to enhance our work of learning, spiritual growth, interfaith dialogue and cooperation, service and civic engagement, community formation, and global citizenship. Ideal candidates will be ordained Rabbis or rabbinical students. Please see below regarding the role of University Spiritual Advisors (elsewhere called Chaplain).

JOB SCOPE DESCRIPTION – Spiritual Advisors at Northeastern University
- Work with Center for Spirituality, Dialogue, and Service’s Executive Director and staff to plan and implement dynamic programs of spirituality, dialogue and service – bringing the religious teachings, practices, and culture(s) of the Spiritual Advisor (SA)’s specific tradition to bear on the interfaith/intercultural mission of the Center.
- Design a strategy of outreach/hospitality/engagement to students, faculty, and staff within the SA’s religious/spiritual tradition.
- Advise student organization(s) regarding religious/spiritual/interfaith matters for the SA’s specific religious/spiritual tradition
- Keep office hours for spiritual guidance/care.
- Be available as needed to meet with and serve students of all religious/spiritual traditions, and none.
- Meet monthly with team of SAs for dialogue and planning.
- With the Center’s Executive Director, work to build bridges of communication and cooperation with the SA’s specific religious/spiritual tradition locally, nationally, and globally.
- Serve as a representative of the SA’s religious/spiritual tradition in University forums, interfaith services, events, conferences and symposia, academic classes, etc.
- Other duties as needed.
