The Boston University School of Theology Library is located in the heart of the Boston University Campus, at 745 Commonwealth Avenue. The building is adjacent to the Marsh Chapel, on the west side of the plaza. The library is on the second floor. To enter the library, you must use the doors closest to the elevators. Doors located in other sections of the library are for emergency use only. It is strongly recommended, if at all possible, to take public transportation while visiting the School of Theology Library.
By Public Transportation
• By
Green Line. The
B Line (running to
Boston College outbound, and
Park Street inbound) runs right outside the School of Theology. Get off at
Boston University Central and cross the westbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue towards Marsh Chapel. The entrance to the School of Theology is directly across from the stop. The
C Line stop
St. Mary’s Street (running to
Cleveland Circle outbound and
North Station inbound) is about a
ten minute walk from the School of Theology, heading down St.Mary’s St. towards Commonwealth Avenue.
• By MBTA Bus. Several MBTA buses stop near the School of Theology, including the 57 Bus (running between Kenmore Station and Watertown Yard, via Allston/Brighton) which stops right outside the front door of the School of Theology. The 47 bus (running between Central Square, Cambridge and BU Medical Center) and the CT2 (running between Sullivan Square, Charlestown and Ruggles) stop about a five minute walk from the School of Theology. Several buses stop at Kenmore Station, a short trolley or 57 Bus ride away from the School of Theology, including the 8 bus (UMASS Boston via B.U. Medical Center), the 19 bus (Fields Corner via Grove Hall), the 60 bus (Chestnut Hill via Brookline Village), and the 65 bus (Brighton Center and Washington St.). • By BU Bus. The BU Bus, connecting the BU Medical Campus with the Charles River Campus, stops close to the entrance of the School of Theology Library. The BU Bus is free for all BU-affiliated students, faculty, and staff.
By Car
BU provides general directions to campus from the
north, southeast, south, and west. If you are driving, there are
parking meters on Commonwealth Avenue, Bay State Road, and some roads in Brookline. The Granby Lot (665 Commonwealth Ave.) is the closest
pay lot for visitors. The School of Theology Library is located in an area that is very accessible by public transportation, but an area that’s susceptible to a lot of automobile traffic. As we are in Boston, parking is usually at a premium.
To repeat, it is strongly encouraged, if at all possible, to take public transportation to the School of Theology Library.
