Information for New Faculty

Welcome to Boston University Summer Term. If you are new to teaching at the University, here are several steps for you to take to get started:

  • Your course assignment letter will be sent in the spring. Please sign and return it to the Summer Term office.
  • If you have not done so already, please complete a Summer Term New Faculty Personnel Record.
  • You will receive an email from Human Resources summarizing the new hire process.
  • Complete Section 1 of your I-9 paperwork online at the BU I-9 site. Section 2 of your I-9 paperwork should be completed at the Human Resources office. Human Resources is located at 25 Buick Street, around the corner from 881 Commonwealth Ave. Bring identification with you; a list of acceptable documentation is located here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/acceptable-documents/acceptable-documents. You must complete this process by the third day of the summer session in which you are teaching.
  • As part of this process, you will receive a BU Login, Kerberos password, and BU email account. Once you have these, you will be able to access MyBU. This will give you access to your class list, student email addresses, grade sheets, and other faculty resources.
  • If you are international, you need to check-in at the ISSO office at 888 Commonwealth Ave, 2nd floor. ISSO can be reached by email at isso@bu.edu, or by phone at 617-353-3565.
  • The Human Resources office will give you directions for signing up to direct deposit your paycheck. It is expected that summer faculty will use the direct deposit system.

Once these steps are completed, you should be all ready for your summer teaching.
