Current BU Student Registration

Course information for summer 2025 will be available on December 15, 2024. Registration for summer 2025 opens in February 2025. Sign up for an email reminder.

BU students who have an active BU login account and Kerberos password can register for summer courses on the MyBU Student Portal. You don’t need an academic advising code for summer registration, although it is always a good idea to check with your advisor before signing up for courses.

You can continue to add/drop courses on the MyBU Student Portal until the end of the add/drop period for your particular course. No changes are possible once the add/drop deadline has passed.

If you are officially graduating in May, you should register for summer courses as a visiting student using a paper registration form.

How to Register

  1. Log in to MyBU Student Portal (formerly Student Link) using your BU email and Kerberos password.
  2. Upon logging in, click on the Class Registration tile and you will be directed to your MyBU Student Dashboard.
  3. From the Dashboard, click “Class Information” followed by “Class Search” to filter for courses based on specific criteria (term, instructor, course number, instruction mode, etc.). Watch this video tutorial for further guidance on utilizing Class Search and the course registration process.
    1. To help narrow your search, browse all course offerings by clicking “Course Catalog.”
    2. Please note the following details when registering:
      1. Use the “Instruction Mode” filter to select in-person or online courses.
      2. A course “Status” with a green “O” label indicates the course has open seats. A course status indicating “10/35” indicates the course has 10 remaining open seats.
  4. Once you have identified the course(s) you want to register for, click the “Enroll” button.

Note: Some instructors do not allow students to join their course once it has begun. It is recommended that you register for and attend summer courses by their first meeting date. During add/drop week, if you want to add a course after it has started, you should first contact the instructor to receive permission to add.

Standard courses are courses that start and end on the official dates of a six-week summer session: Summer 1 or Summer 2. Nonstandard courses have a class meeting schedule that differs from an official six-week session.

Course overloads

Two courses for a total of 8–10 credits is considered a full-time schedule for a six-week summer session. Students who wish to take more than two courses in a six-week summer session must complete a paper Summer Add/Drop form for their overload course, seek approval if needed, and pass in the form to the Summer Term office (200 Riverway, Suite 114). Most BU schools and colleges require approval to take a summer overload—check with your advising office and obtain the appropriate permission before passing in your Summer Add/Drop form.

Payment

Charges for tuition and fees will appear on your student account soon after you register for courses. These charges will remain, and you will be responsible for payment, unless you officially withdraw or drop your course(s) by the published deadlines. See the Tuition, Fees, & Payment section for additional payment information.
