Withdrawal Deadlines
Absence from class or non-payment does not constitute an official withdrawal or dropped course. If your plans change and you are unable to attend a course for which you have registered, you must officially drop/withdraw from the course.
- If you drop a course by the first day of the session, you will not be responsible for the course’s tuition and fees.
- If you drop a course after the first day of the session but by the course’s drop deadline, you will be responsible for the course’s fees but are not responsible for the course’s tuition.
- If you withdraw from a course after the course’s drop deadline, you will be held responsible for all tuition and fees associated with the course and you will receive a “W” grade for the course.
You can drop/withdraw from summer courses until the drop/withdrawal deadlines using the MyBU Student Portal or by completing a Summer Add/Drop form and sending it to the Summer Term office.
Please note: If you are a visiting international student attending Summer Term on a Boston University Summer I-20, you must maintain full-time enrollment in the summer. If you have any questions, please email sumintl@bu.edu.

If payment was made electronically or by check, students may receive an electronic refund to a US checking or savings account. To add a refund bank account, visit the MyBU Student Portal and select “My Bill & Aid,” “Student Account Balance Due,” then “Nelnet Payment & Payment Plans” to access the portal of our vendor, Nelnet. Select “Manage Refunds” from the menu to be redirected to Nelnet’s Student Choice Refund platform, where you can enter your bank account information.
