Healthcare Providers & Other Resources
Healthcare Providers
If you require medical attention while abroad, you should contact InternationalSOS (ISOS) for support.
Sydney Assistance Centre – +61 2 9372 2468.
International Assistance Centre (available 24/7) – +1 (215) 942-8478.
The ISOS team can assist you in booking appointments with doctors, specialists & mental health professionals. You can request ISOS to arrange a Guarantee of Payment, meaning you will not need to pay at any point in the process. Please note, a Guarantee of Payment can take 1-2 business days to be confirmed.
Although the most efficient method of receiving medical assistance is through ISOS, you should feel free to visit any medical office of your choice. It’s worth noting if you choose to book an appointment with an out-of-network provider (not via ISOS), you will need to pay for the appointment in full upfront, and then submit a claim afterwards to receive reimbursement.
The intention of this section is to provide students with a consolidated list of contact information for the various healthcare resources available.
Once students arrive in Sydney, students will receive more detailed information about navigating the healthcare system while in Australia. As always, the BU Sydney Staff are available to help with any questions you may have, so please don’t hesitate to reach out before or during the program for assistance via busydney@bu.edu.
The medical centres listed below provide a range of consultation and treatment services, and are located close to BUSAC. The GPs (general practitioners) listed below charge nominal fees for their services (usually $60-90 AUD), provide referrals when necessary for specialised assessments and treatments, and supply receipts which may be used when filing for reimbursement from your insurance provider (International SOS).
Please note, if you are concerned by the financial impact of any health appointments while in Sydney, please reach out to the BU Sydney Staff who can assist you in exploring payment scheme options.

Information for students studying with The University of Sydney
A component to some specific BU Study Abroad Sydney courses involves students attending The University of Sydney. By virtue of being enrolled with the University of Sydney, these particular students have access to additional health services. Specifically, The University Health Service and Student Counselling are two on-campus health clinics that students can attend with assistance under their BUPA OSHC Insurance policy.
The University Health Service (GP appointments)
Address: Level 3 of the Wentworth Building on the Darlington Campus.
Hours: Mon. to Fri., 8.30am to 5pm during the teaching year.
Phone: +61 2 9351 3484
Students can call to make an appointment or book online. Appointments with this practice are shorter in nature, usually 10-15 minutes long. Students will need to pay upfront for appointments, submit a claim for reimbursement with BUPA then be reimbursed via an Australian bank account. Students will need to take their BUPA OSHC card and photo ID with them to the appointment.
Student Counselling
Address: Level 5 Jane Foss Russell Building on the Darlington Campus.
Hours: Mon. to Fri., 9:00am to 5pm during the teaching year.
Phone: +61 2 8627 8433
Students can either call, or text (+61 488 884 429) or email the clinic to book appointments. The Student Counselling clinic offers face-to-face and telehealth counselling sessions depending on student’s preferences. Like the GP clinic, students will need to pay upfront for appointments, submit a claim for reimbursement with BUPA then be reimbursed via an Australian bank account. Students need to take their BUPA OSHC card and photo ID with them to the appointment.
In the scenario that a student needs to attend a clinic on the weekend or outside of standard business hours, the BU Study Abroad Sydney team would recommend students attend the practices detailed in the sections above. In these scenarios it is more beneficial to use your ISOS insurance instead of BUPA. You can find more information regarding this on the Health Insurance page.
