Presentations in a remote class may happen synchronously or asynchronously via pre-recorded student videos. Alternatively, students in in-person classes may be assigned video presentations as well. When assigning students presentations, it is important to ensure that the expectations are clear for the students in terms of follow-up discussions, participation, grading, etc. Read more about sharing these video presentations here.
Presentations on Zoom
Faculty’s familiarity with Zoom as well as the variety of features Zoom offers, make it a good platform for presentations. Presentations on Zoom may be done synchronously or asynchronously. In the synchronous modality, the students would need to have “share screen” privileges, so they could share their slides with the audience. Alternatively, the instructor can create multiple break-out rooms for simultaneous short presentations. Zoom’s new feature where the audience can themselves move in between break-out rooms allows for a Gallery Walk style presentation format (Please note: Make sure you have the most
up-to-date version of Zoom installed on your computer).
In the asynchronous modality, students may pre-record their presentation individually or as a group, by getting together as a team sharing their screen for the slides, and recording their presentation. Alternatively, the presentations could be recorded as an in-class activity if scheduling becomes an issue for students. The instructor would place the students in break-out rooms where they would record their presentations in small teams. Students may then post the link to their Zoom recording on a designated area of their Blackboard course site.
Providing feedback on Presentations and Videos on GoReact
Providing feedback to students on pre-recorded videos is made easier and possible with GoReact. The platform is well integrated in Blackboard, and allows for the instructor to provide feedback throughout the video. You may also attach rubrics to the GoReact assignment.
