New Desktop Telephone Dialing Enhancement

We’re pleased to provide more good news regarding our desktop telephone migration project.

Pressing 9 before dialing an external phone number is no longer necessary from new desktop telephones; just press 1 and the 10 digits that follow, or, for international calls, 011 followed by the international numbers as appropriate.

5-digit calling within the campus will continue to work as it does today.

Along with simplification, this modest change has been implemented to reduce the likelihood of pressing an additional 1 after dialing 91 for an outside line, thereby inadvertently invoking emergency 911 services. So, please:

Press 9 first only when placing an emergency 911 call.

Further information regarding the new telephone system and dialing plan is available on our website, or by contacting IS&T Communication Services at phone@bu.edu or 617-353-2097.
