Absolute FTP’s support for displaying hidden files – defined here as those whose names start with a period (”.”) – is buggy. Although there are options to set it to display hidden file types such as .htaccess files by default, they don’t always work. Fortunately, there is a work-around:

  1. Connect to the web server and navigate to the directory that you wish to access
  2. From the upper left hand menu, select “Options” and “Session Options”; a dialogue box will appear.
  3. Under “Options/FTP,” check the box for “All entries” and then select “OK.”
  4. Refresh the view of the web directory (you can do this by pressing “F5” or selecting the icon in the upper left hand corner); any .htaccess files should now appear.
