CREATING A BLACKBOARD COURSE COPY

If individual faculty need to generate a course copy from a previous semester, these instructions will provide a step-by-step explanation of how to do so.

Please note, this only works with original course view courses. The course copy tool will only show courses that are already currently in Blackboard. Therefore, the course copy tool can be used at the earliest 120 days prior to the course start date. For Ultra the faculty will use the copy items in the UI.  The instructions for Ultra are here.

STEPS TO CREATE ORIGINAL COURSE COPY

To create a course copy, to do so a BU username and Kerberos password are required. Individuals are to log into https://www.bu.edu/phpbin/blackboard-course-copy/.

This will bring up a screen your courses that are assigned to you within Blackboard, please reference the note above that the earliest a course copy tool can be used is 120 days prior to the course start date.

You will be presented with a “Source” list on the left-hand side and a “Destination” list on the right-hand side of the screen (See illustration below).

Within the “Source” column, find the term in which the course you would like to copy was taught in and click the button to left of the course highlighting the row.

Ensure that when copying the course in the “Destination” list is not the same when highlighting a destination (See illustration below – copying course from spring 2024 to summer1 2024).

Once confident with your selected “Source” course to copy and highlighted “Destination”, refer to the top right of the page and click the “Copy” button.

After clicking the “Copy” button, you will see a note on the next page saying “Success!” and will receive a Course Copy Confirmation email that will look like the below message.

COURSE SYMBOL KEY (SEE IMAGE BELOW)

If you see a course with a triangle exclamation mark, the course is an Ultra course and you will need to follow the steps here.

If a check mark is next to the course, please note that means the course has already been copied.

If an hourglass symbol is next to the course, please note that means the copy has been initiated but is not complete.
