Students attending BU have several different storage options depending on needs and expectations.

Local Storage

You can keep all your files on the hard drive of your computer provided you have the space available.

Should you choose to keep your files on your hard drive, IS&T recommends regular backup of your computer, and you may want to consider purchasing an external hard drive to back up your files, photos, and music.

BU Provided Options

  • BU Google Drive is a good place to store up to 15 Gigabytes (GB) of data. Please be aware that the limit is shared with your email storage. Upon graduation, Google Drive and Google photo storage will need to be transferred to personal storage options. As an alum, you’ll retain your BU Google Mail and 15GB of email storage, but will lose storage in the other Google apps.
  • BU Dropbox accounts are available on a limited basis upon request and are best for group projects, classroom collaboration, and research. The storage limit is 250 GB per person and will stop being available upon graduation.

Other Options

You can also choose another online storage platform and either pay for a subscription or use their free options (depending on the amount of data you have). You will still need to download the data and then upload the information to this new provider.

    Box

    OneDrive/Office 365

    Personal Google Drive

  • Store, share, and collaborate on files and folders from your mobile device, tablet, or computer.
  • Visit the Google One Plans and Pricing page to learn more about your cloud storage options.

    iCloud

  • iCloud helps you keep your most important information—like your photos, files, and backups—secure, up to date, and available across all your devices. iCloud also makes it easy to share photos, files, notes, and more with friends and family.
