IS&T is in the process of introducing the BU community to My CV, a new sservice to help reduce the administrative burden on faculty members by storing scholarly data in one place. Through a partnership between the Provost’s Office, the BU Libraries and IS&T, My CV will provide a repository for the University’s academic community to store basic profile information, such as appointments and education, as well as more detailed information, such as publications, teaching activities, grants, and professional activities. Wherever possible, the system will be pre-populated with internal and external source data to save time and reduce the data entry effort for faculty. During our initial rollout, information stored within the system will only be made available to the BU community However, we do hope to leverage the information for public-facing websites in the future.
How will the new system reduce administrative work for faculty?
- Enter information once. Leverage pre-populated information from BU and external source systems.
- Information that is gathered as part of the Faculty Annual Review process will be stored centrally in My CV. You’ll be able to maintain your profile information throughout the year, making the annual review process a simple confirmation step instead of a massive data entry effort. The current CRC Faculty Annual Review system will be replaced by My CV.
- Assign a delegate to help maintain profile information.
- External sources will help associate your publications to your profile. Your search settings are in your complete control and BU Libraries is ready to help and assist.
- Easily export your data in the form of a CV or formatted NIH Biosketch.
- Deposit your publications in alignment with BU’s Open Access policy.
When will the system be available for use?
We have introduced the system to a small number of departments to pilot My CV. Our rollout will continue with the Charles River Campus schools and colleges starting in January 2017. Timing for the Medical Campus rollout is still being confirmed as we are planning to build integrations with the current BU Profiles system.
