LGBTQIA+ Scholar Series: Mental health inequalities among trans and nonbinary college students: Findings from the national Healthy Minds Study and the role of discriminatory and protective campus policies

  • Starts: 12:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024
  • Ends: 1:15 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024

Featuring Sarah Ketchen Lipson, Associate Professor in the Department of Health, Law, Policy, and Management at the School of Public Health

In this session, Professor Sarah Ketchen Lipson (she/her) will share lessons learned from the Healthy Minds Study, the most comprehensive annual survey of mental health in U.S. higher education. She will discuss prevalence, help-seeking, and trends in student mental health outcomes over time, particularly in the context of mental health inequalities experienced by trans and nonbinary (TNB) students. She will also share emerging findings from her study of how campus policies (e.g., name change policies) shape mental health among TNB students, perpetuating and widening inequalities via discriminatory policies or supporting wellbeing and advancing equity via protective policies. Time will be allocated for discussion.

LGBTQIA+ Scholar Series events are open to all members of the BU community including students and alums. Please check out the list of all BU faculty talks this academic year https://www.bu.edu/thecenter/programs-services/scholar-series/
