Event Space (Room 104)
Capacity:
- 160 theater-style seating (120 with BU Productions)
- 100 banquet style seating (10 each table)
- 200 standing reception
Tech Specs:
- Ceiling-mounted projection screen at the front of the room
- Wall-mounted flat-panel displays mounted at the front of the room
- (8) Wireless and (8) lavalier microphones (Must use LETS or SPS)
- Loudspeakers mounted on columns at the front of the room
- Stream over WIFI capabilities using Crestron Software
The HTC’s Event Space is a main feature of the Center. It’s a multipurpose space with three projection screens and in-house microphones. It’s great for live performances, film screenings and larger banquets.
Instructions for Requesting a Space
*You must read the below requirements before filling out an event request.
All event requests should be structured as a pitch and answer the following:
- How is this event aligned with Howard Thurman’s philosophies?
- How will it create an experience of self-exploration and connection for the attendees?
- How will the event organizer attract a reasonable amount of attendees to fill the space being requested?
Requests that do not answer these questions in a satisfactory way will unfortunately be denied.
STUDENTS/STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS:
All student/ student organization events held in the Howard Thurman Center must adhere to the following criteria:
- Must be relevant to the mission of the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground
- Must be open to all BU students
- For assistance with audio/visual equipment such as microphones or projection, you must submit a request to Student Production Services through the Student Activities Office (SAO). The HTC will not provide assistance with the request and cannot provide technical assistance at your event.
- Must use Catering on the Charles for food orders
- Student organizations are responsible for costs related to the room, such as, but not limited to, room set ups and custodial services if applicable
- All requests are tentative until the requestor (student organization) completes the entire process:
- Student organization must submit all paper work to SAO (HTC approval form)
- If applicable, a floor plan must be submitted with Facilities through SAO
- If applicable, catering requests must be submitted to Catering on the Charles through SAO
- If applicable, an SPS request must be submitted to SAO
- The HTC must have copies of all of these documents for your event to take place
- All requests are tentative until a representative of your group meets with an HTC staff member
BU DEPARTMENTS AND NON-BU COMMUNITY PARTNERS:
All BU departments/ colleges and outside community partners must adhere to the following criteria:
- Event must be relevant to the mission of the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground
- Be open to all members of the Boston University community
- Must use LETS for all technology services and requests. No exceptions. HTC staff will not fill out these requests and cannot offer technical assistance at your event.
- Must use Catering on the Charles for all catering needs
- Must cover costs related to LETS, Catering on The Charles, and Facilities room set up
- All requests are tentative until a representative of your department meets or has a phone call with an HTC staff member
Please allow at least two weeks for a response to your event request. It is best practice to make an event request at least 4 weeks before the date of your event, as the request may not be approved.
