There are 13 comments on MassDOT Construction Closes Comm Ave Bridge for Two-Plus Weeks

  1. Will the construction between July 28 and Aug 7 be limited to the daytime, or is 24 hours? Do you recommend that residents of immediately adjacent blocks evacuate b/c of the noise, or is this mostly an inconvenience for transportation?

    1. Construction is scheduled for 24 hours a day, seven days a week through 5 a.m. Aug. 14. Traffic is indeed the primary disruption.

  2. I’m confused. I thought all vehicular traffic between Kenmore and Packard’s Corner was supposed to be halted. I was on campus yesterday, and there were plenty of cars driving between BU East and St. Paul’s Street. How can this be?

  3. MassDOT has restricted vehicular traffic between St. Paul and St. Mary’s Street, the area which constitutes the construction zone of the project. Property owners and businesses operating in the area have been allowed access up to those areas. For additional info on this, see the MassDOT project website link in the story above.

    1. Thank you for your reply. I was just confused because traffic seemed to be at its normal level between St. Paul and St. Mary’s Street on Thursday. I saw today that the eastbound side of the road was completely closed, and I don’t believe that was the case on Thursday. Anyway, everything has been fairly smooth. I’m glad the roadway and the bridge will be safe and fixed up soon!

  4. Will the newly installed Hubway stations remain after the construction is complete? There seems to be more bikes on the road than before, and if people have gotten used to commuting by bike, keeping the stations may be a good incentive.

    1. At the present time, Hubway and the cities of Boston and Brookline have agreed to the temporary placement of these additional stations to assist in providing alternative, permissible travel through over the bridge during this construction period only. To our knowledge, there has been no discussion to keep these temporary stations in place after the construction period.

    1. We will discuss and confirm this understanding with MassDOT at the conclusion of the current phase of construction on the Comm Ave Bridge Replacement Project.
