BUCK SASS
Boston University Cycle Kitchen Surrender and Storage Service
Students are not permitted to leave bicycles or other micromobility devices on campus over the summer unless they are living or working on campus. Unauthorized micromobility devices left in bike rooms over the summer will have their locks cut and they will be impounded.
BUCK SaSS (BU Cycle Kitchen Surrender and Storage Service) provides an easy way for students to store (or donate) their bikes and scooters.
STORAGE
We will provide secure storage for your registered bicycle or scooter over the summer for $25 (plus a $25 deposit, refundable upon pickup).

FAQ
Storage
Where will the bicycles be stored?
Bicycles are stored in a dry location accessible only to BU Cycle Kitchen staff. The space is secured and equipped with surveillance cameras. All pickup and drop off will occur in the plaza in front of Booth Theater (820 Commonwealth Ave).
Can I store my scooter? e-scooter? e-bike? e-skateboard?
Sure. We’re happy to store any micromobility device with a BU registration sticker on it. Just remember: electric devices must be
UL or TUV Certified in order to be registered.
What if my bike or scooter isn't registered?
You’ll need to register it. There are two ways to do that:
- stop by the BUCK during business hours with your bike or scooter
- register your scooter on the spot at the SASS drop off site
For a faster drop off, we recommend option 1.
Important: electrical-powered devices must be UL or TUV-certified, unmodified, and in good condition.
Can I leave accessories (helmets, lights, locks, bags...) on my bike?
We do not recommend it. We are not responsible for damage or loss of accessories and we prefer that you take them with you.
Can I leave the charger for my e-device?
Yes but it must be sturdily secured to your device using Zip ties. We are not responsible for damage or loss of chargers.
What if none of the four drop off dates works for me?
Sorry. We’re unable to accept SaSS drop offs at any other time.
What if none of the four pickup dates works for me? or if I just want to pick up my device earlier or later?
The only way to get your $25 deposit back is to pick your device up between 2 and 5pm on one of the four pickup days. Pickups outside of those times can be arranged with at least 7 days’ notice but without exception your deposit will be forfeited. Devices that have not been picked up within 90 days of the last pickup day will be considered surrendered and will not be returned.
I'm graduating in May but returning to Boston in the Fall. Can I store my bike for the summer?
Sorry. This service is only for current students. You are welcome to surrender your bike to us but we cannot store it.
Why is there a deposit?
The deposit incentivizes picking up bikes on the four pickup dates (you lose your deposit if you ask to pick up your device outside of those dates). This allows us to run this service despite having limited staffing.
Could you maybe tune my bike up over the summer?
Nope! But we’ll be happy to help you do it yourself at the BUCK and we’ll also have tools and pumps available for your use on the four pickup days so if you need to put air in those tires or lube on that chain, we’ll have you covered.
Surrender
Where do surrendered devices go?
Can I get my bike back if I have second thoughts?
Probably not. It is no longer your bike and we may have already given it away. If we can easily give it back to you we will, but we make no guarantees. You should assume that getting your bike back is not an option.
Can I declare my surrendered device as a charitable donation?
We are not able to offer 501(c)(3) donation receipts at this time but we are looking into it.
