
Kara Mullen
Associate Director, Production Services
Kara (she/her) is responsible for the scheduling and contracting of all events & productions and the overall management of the Tsai Performance Center. She joined Boston University in 1999, after being an Actor’s Equity Association stage manager at the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Along with the Tsai production staff, she works with BU departments, student groups, and external clients in planning all the details of their events and productions. Kara enjoys working with people to utilize the full technical and creative capacity of the Tsai Center to meet their event needs. She prides herself on fostering a positive work environment for the student and professional staff and is in awe of all the wonderful people she has worked with since her first day in 1999.
In addition to her work at Tsai, Kara is part of the leadership team of Events & Conferences. She supports her co-workers in E&C by sharing her technical knowledge to help the department meet its goals. Kara manages many of the department websites, including Tsai, E&C, and Commencement. She loves technology and is constantly looking for new ways that can support the work she and her co-workers do. Kara is also a member of the BU Women’s Guild and volunteers with their Communications Committee as their website specialist.
Kara loves bird-watching, photography, and going for nature walks, and also counts crocheting & genealogy among her hobbies. She loves how these things fuel her time away from work.
Kara earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a minor in theatre arts, from the University of San Diego and a master’s degree in arts administration from Boston University.
