What We Do

The Urban Business Accelerator Program (UBX) is currently not being offered. Feel free to read more about the program but we are not accepting student nor business applications at this time. Thank you!

Lack of access to capital for micro-businesses is stunting innovation, job creation, and macro-economic growth.  A significant barrier to capital is a lack of financial literacy among these entrepreneurs. To address this prevalent issue a team from the Boston University School of Management has launched the Urban Business Accelerator Program.

The Urban Business Accelerator Program (UBX) focuses on improving financial literacy for businesses in underserved communities with the objective of better positioning these companies to grow through financial viability. The program prepares the owners to address key financial obstacles while providing a unique opportunity for students to receive hands-on experience working with small urban  businesses. The experiential learning opportunity allows students to observe and experience the difficulties that plague small businesses while collaborating with and implementing viable solutions.

In the 10-week program, student-led teams collaborate with business owners and provide 180+ hours of free one-on-one financial and computer literacy training resulting in the implementation of a customized QuickBooks or QuickBooks Point of Sale program. By growing this opportunity the program helps retain and create jobs, as well as provide high-impact internships.
