Quadrotors

We are interested in modeling the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of small quadrotors.  The Army’s Helios suite of codes is being utilized together with PSU-WOPWOP.

Research has been done to characterize the importance and accuracy of transition models in the near body CFD solver.

Research has been done to better understand the interaction flow effects due to the multirotors and the fuselage.

The graduate student working on this project worked as an intern with the Army’s rotorcraft group this past summer and implemented a trim model that can handle rpm based trim.

The computational aerodynamic work is part of a larger NSF funded project that is described on Professor Tron’s website.

Several conference papers have been written on this project already.  See the publications page of this website.
