Making Changes to your Registration

After submitting your Orientation registration, students can log back into MyBU Student Portal to make changes and edits to your Orientation Registration up to 48 hours before your scheduled session. In the event you need to make changes or cancel less than 48 hours before your session please contact us as soon as possible and we will be able to assist you in editing your registration.

Account Lacks Proper Level of Authorization

If you are getting the “Lacks the appropriate level of authorization” error when trying to sign into your MyBU Student Portal or other webpages, you are likely either signing in with your applicant credentials or your computer has that information saved and is trying to sign in with those credentials. Please try the following steps:

  1. Go to bu.edu/logout
  2. Clear your cache: https://www.bu.edu/tech/support/browsers/clear-cache/
  3. Go back to the website they are trying to sign into
  4. Make sure you are signing in with your BU login. Please note this is different than your personal email address or your applicant account sign in.

If still unsuccessful, then please contact IS&T for further assistance.

Can’t Participate

While Boston University views Orientation as the foundational experience for a successful start both academically and socially, we understand that there are some circumstances that could prevent a new student from actually being able to attend. In these rare instances, BU is able to make such an accommodation. In order to have this conversation, please submit the form on our contact us page and select “I can’t attend Orientation”.  A member of the Orientation team will reach out to you to learn more about your circumstances.

Remember, the Orientation Blackboard course is also a part of your Orientation experience. Even if you are unable to attend an Orientation session, course completion is mandatory and will be checked.

College of General Studies Students

All incoming College of General Studies first-year students (Spring 2025 start date) are given the option to decide when they would prefer to attend Orientation. Students can attend an Orientation session during June 2024 (spaces are limited), or they can attend Winter Orientation 2025 prior to the start of their academic semester. The choice is completely up to you and your personal preference. Winter Orientation will take place Friday, January 17 – Sunday, January 19, 2025.

Please note: Students can only attend Orientation once. The Orientation Fee that covers this experience is only assessed on the first semester tuition bill.
