Integrated Science Experience II
ISE 2 is offered every Fall semester.
Are you taking NE 203 or BI 203 in the Fall? Are you also taking CH 203 in the Fall? Are you interested in a research-like lab experience?
Learning Objectives
- To reinforce foundational concepts of Chemistry, Biology and Neuroscience in an interdisciplinary lab format that is realistic to how the disciplines are applied in a biomedical research setting.
- To build technical skills at lab techniques and experimental approaches that are used in each of these disciplines, as well as in interdisciplinary areas like drug discovery.
- To promote scientific critical thinking and independence, through the student-driven development of a Capstone Project.
The Pre-Health Advising Office was closely consulted in the development of these courses. ISE 2 satisfies the chemistry and biology recommendations for pre-health students.

How to Register for ISE 2: BI/CH/NE 218
Register your interest for the experience by submitting a response to the ISE 2 BI/CH/NE 218 Interest Form. The interest form is NOT a binding decision or a guarantee of placement.
During registration, students are expected to register for the regular sections and components of CH 203 and NE 203/BI 203 as they normally would:
- CH 203 Lecture/Discussion/Lab/Pre-Lab
- NE 203 Lecture/Lab OR BI 203 Lecture/Discussion
If you are a Neuroscience major, we highly recommend that you take the NE route.
After registration closes, students who filled out the interest form will be offered a spot based on availability and satisfactory final performance in CH 102/116. Note you will only receive a response to your interest form entry if you are offered a seat. It can take several weeks to send out seat offers in ISE 2.
Once you follow all the instructions in the offer letter and accept your seat, you will then be registered for all of the Integrated Science Experience 2 course components:
- The CH 218 Lecture section that meets with the CH 203 Lecture you registered for
- The NE 218 Lecture section that meets with the NE 203 Lecture you registered for OR the BI 218 Lecture section that meets with the BI 203 Lecture you registered for
- BI 218 or NE 218 Lab: W 1:25 – 5:25 PM
- CH 218 Lab: F 12:20 – 4:20 PM
- BI/CH/NE 218 Pre-Lab: M 2:30 – 4:15 PM
