College of Arts and Sciences

As Boston University’s largest academic division, the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences are at the heart of the BU experience.

Undergraduates choose from more than 2,500 courses in the humanities, natural and social sciences, and mathematical and computational sciences, and pursue BA programs in more than 70 majors and minors. Graduate students can earn a master’s or PhD in nearly 50 fields of the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences, and mathematical and computational sciences. Distinguished faculty committed to exemplary teaching, rigorous scholarship, and cutting-edge research assure a rich academic journey across the liberal arts and sciences.

The college and graduate school value the diversity of mind that each unique student brings with him or her to BU. We believe that diversity (of thought and background) furthers our mission to serve the public good through education, research, and discovery. Not only does a higher education that is accessible to all [on the basis of academic potential] enhance social mobility, but a diverse, collaborative environment has been shown to enhance research and learning outcomes.
