The Master of Education (EdM) in Early Childhood Education at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development is for students who want to work as educators with young children (ages 3–8) in classrooms, programs, or other educational settings. You’ll learn to design and implement inclusive, engaging curriculum, support children’s social and emotional learning and well-being, and create learning environments that include and affirm children’s cultural and linguistic identities.
The Early Childhood Education master’s program offers students four pathways to a degree, and you’ll be able to select the one that is most aligned with your experience and goals. If you choose, you’ll have the option to seek teacher licensure. You will also work closely with a faculty advisor, who will support you in getting the most from your time at BU Wheelock as possible. Our flexible program is available full- or part-time and coursework is offered in the evenings.

Field-Based Experiences
Students in the Early Childhood Education master’s program complete at least one semester of student teaching in a classroom for young children. You’ll work closely with a mentor or supervisor as you develop skills to support the learning of young children.
Licensure
The master’s in Early Childhood Education offers students the option to seek endorsement for the Massachusetts Early Childhood Education (PreK–2) license. BU Wheelock offers a full range of support to our graduate students seeking teaching licensure.
