People with disabilities have complex and varied needs, and the Boston University EdM/MSW dual degree program will help you grow as a professional equipped to respond to those needs thoughtfully and sensitively. The dual degree program jointly hosted by BU Wheelock College of Education & Human Development and the School of Social Work (SSW). At the end of the program, you will graduate with two degrees: a master of social work (MSW) and a master of education (EdM) in special education or educational policy studies.

What Can You Do With a Dual Degree?

Dual degree programs are designed to give students knowledge and skills across two disciplines. In the Boston University EdM/MSW dual degree program, you’ll learn how to become a leader with a rich understanding of social work, education, and human development. Our dual degree program can open a variety of career pathways—graduates of the EdM/MSW program are working in a wide range of fields, including early intervention programs, school social work, AIDS education, school administration, and WMCA program planning.

Dual Degree Program Requirements

You have two options when you apply for the dual EdM/MSW program:

  • Apply to both schools for simultaneous admission.
  • Apply to either school first and then apply to the second school during the first semester of matriculation.

The EdM/MSW program usually takes three years to complete.
