Even if you’re an experienced teacher with some familiarity with literacy learning, there’s always room to grow as an educator, professional, and leader. BU Wheelock’s certificate of advanced graduate study (CAGS) in Reading Education provides licensed teachers with the knowledge and skills they need to teach reading and writing effectively, evaluate their students’ progress, and support students who may need additional support as they learn how to read and write.

Designed for teachers who already have a master’s degree, our CAGS program will widen and deepen your expertise in reading instruction.  Alongside theoretical classwork, you’ll gain hands-on experience in one of our school-based practicums—practical knowledge will prepare you to support students as soon as you graduate from the program. CAGS candidates complete a capstone project at the end of the program. When enrolled full-time, students can complete this CAGS program in nine months (fall and spring semesters). Part-time options for the CAGS are also available.
