The Master of Education (EdM) in English & Language Arts Education at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development provides students with the opportunity to earn a master’s degree centered on English or language arts education. In this unique program centered on equity and social justice, you’ll deepen your expertise in lesson design, critical literacy, instructional delivery, and more. You’ll also have the opportunity to take courses in English with a focus on diverse literature and pedagogy and explore culturally sustaining teaching practices for developing students’ literacy and literary skills.
The EdM in English & Language Arts Education is for individuals who already have an initial teaching license or who are interested in teaching outside the public school system. While the EdM does not lead to preliminary or initial teaching licensure, you have the option to complete coursework and/or do a field-based placement that would prepare you for teaching licensure. This flexible program can be completed full- or part-time and can be started in any semester.

Students in the EdM in English & Language Arts Education have the option to pursue coursework or field placements that would help them qualify for initial teaching licensure.
