The Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) program at Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development trains teachers, researchers, test developers, program administrators, and other professionals to teach children, youth, and adults who are learning English.

Students in the TESOL program have access to faculty with a wide range of expertise in several aspects of ESL and TESOL teaching, including instructional coaching, applied linguistics, minority languages, phonology, and more. In addition, students will learn how to lead TESOL instruction with cultural sensitivity and an understanding of social justice and equity.

Boston University’s TESOL program offers several options for students, whether or not they plan to seek initial teaching licensure. This includes two master’s degrees (EdM), as well as graduate certificates in TESOL and ESL (English as a Second Language).
