BU Wheelock Faculty Promoted to Senior Lecturers
Five BU Wheelock faculty members were recently promoted for their significant contributions to BU Wheelock and beyond. Aaron Brakoniecki, Jennifer Bryson, Todd Czubek, Raul Fernandez, and Mary Hughes were all promoted to senior lecturer. They represent the Math Education, Elementary Education, Deaf Studies, Higher Education Administration, and Language Education programs at BU Wheelock.
Aaron Brakoniecki, Mathematics Education
Aaron Brakoniecki is a senior lecturer and director of the Mathematics Education program. He teaches prospective and practicing middle and high school mathematics teachers, and his research focuses on preservice teachers’ mathematics knowledge and the ways technology impacts that knowledge.
Jennifer Bryson, Elementary Education
Jennifer Bryson is a senior lecturer and director of the Elementary Education program. In her research, she examines the role of family literacy projects as a tool to bridge home and school literacy. She specializes in the professional preparation of elementary education teachers.
Todd Czubek, Deaf Studies
Todd Czubek is a senior lecturer in the Deaf Studies program. His interests include studying discourse proficiencies in American Sign Language, ASL/English bilingual education, and teaching strategies that promote academic success for Deaf children.
Raul Fernandez, Higher Education Administration
Raul Fernandez is a senior lecturer in the Higher Education Administration program. A recognized leader and speaker on issues of diversity and inclusion, his research explores school segregation and considers the impact of racial isolation on college students’ capacity to dialogue across difference.
Mary Hughes, Language Education
Mary Hughes is a senior lecturer in the Language Education Program. Her interests include investigating the interaction of cognitive, linguistic, and usage-based approaches to reveal the complex range of factors involved in first and second language development.
