Event Promotion Overview
BU Wheelock MarCom can offer guidance and support for promoting BU Wheelock events. There are many events happening at BU Wheleock at any one time, so we recommend reaching out as soon as possible using the MarCom Contact form.
BU Wheelock MarCom offers the following support for most BU Wheelock events:
- Mention in the Monday morning event social media post (week of event, must be on BU Wheelock calendar)
- Posting your graphic on the 2 Silber Lobby digital display
- Templates for flyers and social media
- Sharing your posts on social media (remember to tag us!)
- Guidance on brand compliance (review BU Wheelock’s brand guidelines)
- BU Wheelock-branded swag for use or distribution at your event (limits may apply)
- Recommendations for photographers or videographers to hire for your event
However, the best promotion for your event comes from you! You and your team are in the best position to connect with people in your networks who are more likely to have an interest in your event.
Events calendar
List your event on the BU Wheelock calendar. We refer to the calendar to know what to promote in social media and the bimonthly e-newsletter that is sent to our alumni and external mailing list. For guidance on writing effective event titles and descriptions, check out 10 Tips for Writing Great Event Descriptions.
Social media
Once a week, BU Wheelock MarCom posts a digest of all the BU Wheelock events coming up that week. Unfortunately, there are too many events for us to post individually for most events. We will refer to the BU Wheelock calendar to learn about what events are coming up, so make sure that your event is posted there.
Post on your social media channels in advance—and don’t be shy about posting more than once. During and immediately after the event, share any photos you took on your social media channels and tag us so that we can see them and reshare. We are unlikely to share photos that are sent to us after the event as interest will have passed at that point.
BU Wheelock MarCom has created a set of social media templates in Canva that you can use to develop a social media post. See the General Event Social Media Graphics.
Flyers
If you’d like to create a one-pager/flyer to promote your event, use one of these Canva templates: One-pager with small photo, one-pager with large photo
Digital lobby display
To post news about your event on the 2 Silber Way digital display, use the MarCom contact form to submit your request and graphic. Graphics must be 1920 x 1080. Slides are only visible for a few seconds at a time, so it’s recommended that the information on your slide be brief and concise. Limit the content to the most important information and use a QR code to direct viewers to learn more.
Swag
Swag is a great way to increase exposure and build brand recognition for BU Wheelock, and we encourage everyone to make BU Wheelock-branded items available at events, conferences, workshops, and other opportunities. Please allow as much time as possible when ordering swag—it’s helpful if you can allow at least 2–3 weeks to ensure that your order is received.
This swag program is the only way to obtain authorized and approved BU Wheelock swag. For more information, including a catalog and order form, visit the Swag page.
Photography and videography
BU Wheelock MarCom is unable to offer event photography or videography. However, we’re happy to make recommendations of photographers or videographers you can hire for your event, so please reach out using a MarCom contact form.
