WLL seeks Visiting Assistant Professor in Premodern Chinese Literature

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Boston University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in premodern Chinese Literature before 1911, to begin July 1, 2021. A Ph.D. in Chinese Literature, Comparative Literature, or a related field must be completed by the time of employment. We are interested in candidates with a strong foundation in classical Chinese literature and language and innovative approaches to critical Asian humanities, including but not limited to intellectual history, gender/sexuality studies, material culture, translation, visual arts, popular culture, literary theory, and comparative literature. At Boston University, the successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty community in East Asian literature, comparative literature, and interdisciplinary Asian studies. We expect a publishing record, significant teaching experience, and a willingness to participate actively in student advising. In addition, we look forward to having a scholar on campus who can actively contribute to and benefit from the intellectual life of the department. The successful candidate will teach an undergraduate survey course, “Masterpieces of Premodern Chinese Literature,” as well as three additional electives in his/her areas of specialization.
