Hindi Events Highlights
The Hindi-Urdu program organized two in-person, LfA events for its students this semester. The first event was a game of scavenger hunt played outdoors on campus in September. The game was created using an app called Goosechase and required student teams to work together to solve clues in Hindi while following appropriate COVID-related protocols. The event created meaningful opportunities for students to connect and practice their language skills in a congenial environment. The use of a digital app also made it possible for remote students to play the game with their peers simultaneously.
The second event was organized in November to celebrate Diwali, the Indian festival of lights. Students attended a cultural lesson that discussed the diverse traditions and stories associated with the festival and highlighted the symbolism of light as love, knowledge, and hope. Third-semester students also conversed with a guest speaker from India and asked questions about the festival. Finally, all students created art to mark the festival. Students meeting in person painted earthen lamps and built lamps from playdough, while remote students created digital posters.
