Big Fat Book Story of the Stone (Dream of the Red Chamber) Weekly Reading

Each year at World Languages & Literatures we dive into a literary work that we collectively want to get to know better. This coming year, the Big Fat Book will be the 18th-century Chinese novel The Story of the Stone, also known as Dream of the Red Chamber(Hongloumeng 紅樓夢). In the past we started the reading group only in the spring semester, in conjunction with a course offering for our students and winding up with a conference on the BFB in late April. This year, however, we are starting the reading already now because of the length of the novel (5 volumes). The starting date for the reading group will be every Wednesday from 5 – 6pm. It will be in a hybrid format. We encourage people to join us in person in STH 636. However, we will also offer a Zoom option for those who are not able to come in person. (For Zoom link please write to yeh@bu.edu)
