Professor of the Practice in German, Assistant Dean & Director of Language Instruction

Professor Hoecherl-Alden teaches all levels of language classes, 19th through 21st century German literature, film, a survey of German literature from the early Middle Ages through Enlightenment and a course on fairy tales. She has published on German exiles in the United States, post-Wall German film, intercultural communication, as well as language pedagogy and language policy.

One of her co-authored publications was awarded Best Article in a Language Journal from the American Association of Teachers of German and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages recognized her work with the Nelson Brooks Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Culture.

In her role as Assistant Dean and Director of Language Instruction she collaborates with faculty in all language programs at Boston University.
