Yating Fan is currently a Lecturer in Chinese at the Department of World Languages and Literatures at Boston University. She has been teaching Chinese at all levels since 2010. Before joining BU, she taught at Harvard University, University of British Columbia, Williams College, and National Taiwan University. In addition to teaching language courses on both heritage and non-heritage tracks, she has also taught other specialized courses such as Business Chinese, Advanced Conversational Chinese, Classical Chinese, and Taiwanese. She is experienced in teacher training, curriculum design and development, course and staff management, and online/remote course renovation. She also led teaching teams in Harvard’s intensive study abroad program in Beijing. Her accolades include the 2020 Dean’s Innovation Award from Arts and Humanities Division, the Award of Distinction in Teaching 2017-2020, Excellence in Teaching 2016-2017, and Top Instructor 2014-2016. Her research interests include second language acquisition, teaching methodology, curriculum design, and instructional technology.
