Performers:
Echo Bridge Cello: Created by four cellists who share a love of playing the instrument, Echo Bridge Cello offers various cello-related events such as concerts, masterclasses, competitions, & intensive workshops. Members of Echo Bridge Cello play actively as soloists, chamber musicians, & orchestra players with highly respected musical groups in New England area & are faculty members at Boston University, Colby College, Stonehill College, & Phillips Exeter Academy.
Genie Santiago: Genie Santiago (she/they) is a musician, writer, & Holistic Life Coach based out of Greater Boston. Emerging from rough beginnings, their art draws from their experience growing up as a Queer Indigenous Latine & a trauma survivor. Genie uses her art & platform to amplify the needs of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, & marginalized voices of their community.
Sisilia Marpaung: Sisilia Marpaung is a CFA master’s student from the beautiful island of Papua, Indonesia. As a music teacher, she is interested in various forms of traditional music. Born into a large family with all of her siblings being women, they have faced being underestimated due to their gender. These experiences drive Sisilia’s aspiration to make a meaningful contribution as a woman, particularly by utilizing traditional music to inspire & support other women. Sisilia is excited to share her traditional songs, Wampasi Wambarek & Aku Papua. See Sisilia Marpaung’s performance
Nüwa Athletic Club: The Nüwa Athletic Club, based in Boston, MA, provides an environment for Asian American girls & women to enhance their physical & emotional development through teamwork, sportsmanship, & cultural activities which includes but is not limited to lion & dragon dance. They are named after a goddess in ancient Chinese mythology best known for creating mankind & repairing the pillar of heaven.
Triveni School of Dance: Triveni School of Dance is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education & performance of Indian classical dance, social awareness, & the celebration of cultural diversity, founded in 1971 by Neena Gulati—an acclaimed dancer from New Delhi, India. The school, based in Brookline, MA, trains dancers every week in three forms of Indian classical dance: Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, & Odissi.
Tierra del Sol: Tierra del Sol is a community-based ballet folklórico whose aim is to preserve, present & promote Mexican cultural heritage through traditional dance & music.
Vendors:
Sankofa Anacaona Botanicals: A woman-of-color-owned traveling apothecary based in Roxbury. They specialize in plant-based holistic wellness products handcrafted in small batches with locally-sourced botanical ingredients. Their work is informed by Afro-Indigenous Caribbean ancestral knowledge & guided by the wisdom, medicine, & magic of plants. Sankofa Anacaona Botanicals aims to educate & empower our community to reclaim & expand cultural traditions of plant medicine for our individual & collective wellness.
Sueños Heirloom Chocolate: A direct importer of single origin, shade grown cacao from independent small organic farmers in coastal Ecuador. All Sueños cacao is Ecuador’s finest ‘Nacional’ heirloom varieties, which are world renowned for their exceptionally complex & fruity aromas & flavors, & lack of bitterness or astringency. In Watertown, this heirloom cacao is used to make small-batch vegan dark chocolate with a seasonally changing variety of dried fruits, nuts, & seeds.
Afri-root Collective: A socially responsible business that sells exquisite handicrafts made by talented & highly skilled East Africa. A portion of proceeds is used to train other women to work towards sustainability. Their business is devoted to bringing you the best selection of very unique handcrafted items that are reasonably priced.
Accessibility: The Howard Thurman Center is mobility-device accessible. All-gender bathrooms are located on the 1st & 2nd floors of the building. This is an alcohol-free event. Gluten-free, vegetarian, & vegan food options will be available.
