This talk presents multicultural case conceptualization through the lenses of psychological humanities, philosophy of psychology, and critical psychology. 'The Map is Not the Territory' challenges traditional epistemological approaches in psychology, proposing a reevaluation of how cultural contexts are integrated into therapeutic practices and arguing for a paradigm shift from generalized methodologies to a more individualized, culturally responsive framework. Drawing upon philosophical underpinnings, the talk critiques the limitations of universalizing psychological theories across diverse cultural landscapes. It emphasizes the need for a deeper, contextually-rich understanding of individual experiences, shaped by unique cultural, societal, and historical influences, proposing an alternative model for case conceptualization that values cultural narratives and subjective experiences, encouraging psychotherapists to reconceptualize their understanding of 'norms' and 'pathology.' This presentation aims to foster a critical dialogue among mental health professionals about refining therapeutic approaches to better address the complexities inherent in a multicultural client base, advocating for an empathetic, culturally attuned practice
