There are 10 comments on BU Commencement Postponed until Late Summer or Fall

  1. A smart decision. More importantly, even without a formal ceremony, your BU experience will last a lifetime as will the friendships and acquaintances (especially the latter as you meet years from now in every day life) and the values you developed and refine will be the true hallmark of your time at BU…And then, one day, you’ll get a chance to march at your BU commencement no matter when it occurs (because BU will not forget you). I know, I am BU CAS’70!

  2. Why not just cancel it and send their diplomas in the mail as the university did in1970 after Kent State, which was nowhere near as serious as the Coronavirus. Then hold a ceremony 10 years later where maybe 10% of the class shows up?

  3. Glad to learn it’s only a postponed not cancelled. It means more than you know. My parents and aunts were gone by the time I got my ceremony so I pinned their photos to my gown when we had the ceremony so they could be with me.

  4. A very logical and wise decision. It is so disappointimg to students and parents alike after years of hard work but nothing can take away the valuable education that Boston University has given you.

  5. 50 years ago: Our Boston University Commencement was canceled after events at Kent State. I looked forward to our Class of 1970 Reunion this year, but COVID-19 intervened. Current graduates may move on, but they’ll remember: I know I do.
