Level 3: Grapevine Varieties And Their Varietal Wines

Prerequisite: a passing grade in Level 2

Dates: Meets for fourteen weeks; January and September start dates
This course is the second level in our program designed for wine professionals and advanced enthusiasts. Through tutored tastings, class discussions, and reading assignments, this course provides advanced wine students with a thorough knowledge of the world’s grapevine varieties and their wines, from well-known and highly regarded examples to those less known but with great potential.
By the end of this class, students will be able to:
- Identify the key sensory characteristics of the world’s most important varietal wines.
- Analyze wine sensorially and translate those analyses into detailed and accurate annotations.
- Understand how clonal and climatic factors affect wine character.
- Understand the historical, cultural, genetic, viticultural, enological, and market context for the evolution of vine varieties and their wines.
