Minor in Economics
The minor in Economics develops a firm understanding of core microeconomic and macroeconomic theory comparable to that in the major, while at the same time providing students with the opportunity to choose electives in economics that fit their likely targets of interest, ranging from statistics and econometrics to financial economics, labor market analysis, development economics, and many more.
Requirements
Seven courses are required for completion of the minor:
- CAS EC 101 Introductory Microeconomic Analysis (4 units)
- CAS EC 102 Introductory Macroeconomic Analysis (4 units)
- CAS EC 201 Intermediate Microeconomic Analysis (4 units) or CAS EC 221 (4 units)
- CAS EC 202 Intermediate Macroeconomic Analysis (4 units) or CAS EC 222 (4 units)

Students who have taken QST QM 221, or CAS MA 115, or CAS MA 213 (or received transfer units for any courses in statistics) may not take either CAS EC 203 or CAS EC 223 as an elective.
Students must earn a minimum grade of C in courses taken toward the minor.
- A maximum of two courses at the 200 level or higher (i.e., this does not include transfer courses to fulfill CAS EC 101 and/or CAS EC 102) may be transferred toward your economics minor from other schools after matriculation to Boston University.
Notes:
- Petitions for approval of transfer courses must be submitted to your Economics Academic Advisor. Students must submit a Transfer Course Equivalency Form along with a copy of the course syllabus.
