AAPHD Chooses Ana Karina Mascarenhas as VP
SDM prof elected vice president of American Association of Public Health Dentistry

Ana Karina Mascarenhas, a Goldman School of Dental Medicine associate professor and director of the Dental Public Health Program, was recently named vice president of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD).
“I was flattered to be nominated for vice president of the AAPHD,” says Mascarenhas. “My vision is that AAPHD be the lead organization for prevention, access, and evaluation nationally and internationally. We also need to focus on mentoring and recruiting more students, particularly disadvantaged and minority students, to the specialty.”
Along with Raul Garcia, a professor and chair of the department of health policy and health services research, and Judith Jones, a professor and chair of general dentistry, Mascarenhas has served on the AAPHD executive council.
“It is highly fitting that Dr. Mascarenhas’ peers have recognized her many accomplishments by electing her to this prestigious position,” Garcia says. “We are all very proud of her.”
“Dr. Mascarenhas is highly deserving of this accolade,” says SDM Dean ad interim Jeffrey Hutter. “Her desire to give back to the community is an inspiration to all of us at BUGSDM.”
