Across the Charles, a Mile of Fun
River Festival offers free music, dance, and art demos along the riverbank

Don’t let the BU Bridge repairs stop you from skipping over to Cambridge for an afternoon of music, crafts, and art demos at the 29th annual River Festival.
On Saturday, June 14, the city will close off the mile-long stretch of Memorial Drive between Western Avenue and JFK Street to celebrate music and the arts, with five stages, a veritable village of artisan and food tents, and plenty of hands-on arts and crafts demos. Contribute to a community poem, try your hand at glass-blowing, spin a potter’s wheel, or throw down a blanket on the riverbank and soak up some jazz, folk tunes, or world music. This year’s theme: create, connect, engage, inspire.
Musicians scheduled to perform at the annual festival, put on by the Cambridge Arts Council, include Stan Strickland, Sergio Brandao and his Brazilian jazz ensemble Manga Rosa, Mili Bermejo, and folkies Adam Ezra and Anne Heaton, and there will be all manner of dancers, from African to hip-hop to international folk. One stage will be devoted to performances for kids and families.
The rain-or-shine event takes place on June 14 from noon to 6 p.m. Click here for more information or call 617-349-4380.
