F. David Schneider (MED’87) receives leadership award from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians

As a family medicine physician, F. David Schneider has delivered babies and taken care of young children as well as adults with complex medical illnesses. In July, he was honored with the Sam A. Nixon, M.D., Leadership Award from the Texas Academy of Family Physicians (TAFP). Schneider (MED’87) received the award for his strong leadership and service to the academy at TAFP’s 59th Annual Session and Scientific Assembly in Houston on July 19.
Schneider left his post as vice chair and professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio this summer to become chair of the department of family medicine at St. Louis University, in St. Louis, Mo. His responsibilities include expanding clinical and academic programs in family medicine and bringing primary care researchers into the department.
TAFP, which is the state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, promotes the maintenance of high-quality health care and provides accredited continuing medical education to more than 7,000 physicians statewide.
Schneider was president of the academy from 2003 to 2004.
